Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@drycreekranchoutfitters.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes. DCR requires a 50% non-refundable deposit, to hold your dates. Your balance is due on or before August 1st. We understand life happens and if you need to move your hunt please notify our office at (719) 782-0140 asap to reschedule your hunt.

Loaded question. Taking big game under fair chase is one of the most challenging trophies in North America. The areas we hunt is blessed with a large resident herds and migratory elk and deer from the Great Sand Dunes National Preserve and White River National Forest. Best of both worlds. Normally every day our hunters will see game and during the week have a few chances at harvesting. Call DCR to get exact percentage from the past year on the season you are interested in.

No, we do not guarantee anyone a kill. The only people that can guarantee you an elk would be in a high fenced area. We will do our best to get you into elk and deer to give you the opportunity to harvest one while providing a great experience with top notch guides. Success also largely depends on the hunters physical shape and shooting ability.

If there is room we will book a non-hunter for the price of $1800. This depends strictly on availability. Please call for more information.

Rifle shots are usually within 250 yards, while most archery opportunities are around 45-60 yards.

The answer is relative of course, to the type of hunt, the guide himself, and the experience he’s provided. The easy answer is “A minimum of ten percent of the actual hunt price". Although guides work incredibly long, hard hours for their hunter, often eighteen hours or more per day. The backstage stuff that many hunters never see including prep, handling horses, packing meat, cleaning and fueling equipment, washing dishes, and so on can wear a guide down to nothing. But he loves his job and has a powerful desire for you to harvest an animal, so he will drag himself out of his bedroll again and again to have hot coffee and food on the table, horses saddled and waiting before he calls you to breakfast.

Archery hunters will always be 1v1

Rifle hunts are 2v1 due to elk being in herds with multiple bulls this time of year

Rifles larger than a .243 caliber are legal. We want you to bring a rifle you are comfortable with, not just a certain caliber.
